The Nook

The Nook Project – This Paragraph 80 dwelling was granted planning approval under the country house exemption clause, on the basis that the one-off house must be of excellent quality, with a truly outstanding or innovative architectural design. As you can imagine, our team were naturally very excited to be engaged as structural and civil engineers for this exciting build.

The Nook is designed to capture the incredible views of Pitford Water, and with an 8m Vierendeel cantilever, the full panoramic views of the area are captured perfectly. In addition to the beautiful views, the home itself is designed to nestle into the hill-top, with a split-level lower design that includes a garage, gym, bar, an entertainment area and even a place for dog showering. The upper floor is designed to provide a quiet and cosy place to sleep, whilst also effortlessly integrating into the open-plan design of the house.

To enable the various levels to benefit fully from the countryside views, the home is designed with stunning windows, skylights, and doors, including bifold, pocket and sliding doors which allow light to flow throughout the home. The design is certainly an architectural triumph, and our team were excited to put their knowledge and experience to the test to design solutions for the full superstructure, foundations substructure and the overall civil design.

To add to the eco-friendly credentials of this build, we incorporated key features such as a sedum roof and a Blokbuild structure, which reduces the carbon impact of the home whilst also providing extra insulation. Our team is proud to work on such an innovative project, and we are excited to follow the build of this stunning home.
