Our team were engaged to design alterations for the removal of existing internal columns within a commercial unit. The project goal was to create a larger opening for trucks and other commercial vehicles. We created a steel frame with a truss which meant that the 6 existing internal columns could be removed to create the opening required by our client.

The design of the solution allowed both rows of columns to be removed, with new columns, additional bracing and trusses added to support the existing roof beams. The new trusses were 1.5m high. This was beneficial for the client as it left an impressive clearance of 5.5m from the ground for vehicles. We also added diagonal braces between the columns and trusses to provide the lateral stability required to the existing structure.
